Estudiar programación no fue mi primera opción. Pasé por varias otras carreras deseadas antes que esta, pero eso no quiere decir que no haya lugar o tiempo para que se convierta también en un sueño y un objetivo.

Si bien hay días que se hace difícil no caer en las garras del "edadismo" y pensar que a mi edad no debería estar haciendo esto, eso no es más que un mecanismo para refugiarse cuando se está con pocas fuerzas, pero en realidad es una gran mentira de esta sociedad.

Quiero que te fijes en los cientos y miles de casos de personas con mi edad Y CON MÁS que están cambiando de carreras, de presente. Sólo hay que atreverse, bueno, también planificar un poquito cómo va a ser todo porque en general hay familia de por medio y otra cantidad de responsabilidades que suelen rodearnos a esta edad.

Te voy a contar cuál fue mi recorrido hasta ahora, un poco autodidacta, otro poco en una institución...

Primeros pasos:

Si leíste mi post anterior, sabrás que luego de una publicidad de "Microverse" (si, me agarraron, pero no precisamente terminé en su bootcamp) empecé a investigar sobre qué se necesitaba para ser desarrolladore web, front-end.

En este caso me derivaban a otra plataforma para poder hacer lo que sería el primer nivel y luego de ello podrías postular para su bootcamp.

"The Odin project"

Esta fue la plataforma que te comenté, por dónde debería comenzar, según Microverse. Decidí crear mi cuenta y empezar allí.
Te voy a enlistar algunas cosas sobre ella:

Requisitos:

• Qué debo saber? --> Lo básico sobre computación e Inglés.

• Qué valor tiene --> $0, es una organización sin fines de lucro.

• Qué tiempo me llevará? --> Es a tu propio ritmo, depende tus conocimientos, de 6 a 8 meses si estudias activamente.

• Hay clases online? --> No, el contenido es asincrónico.

• Son videos? --> El contenido es de lo más variado, pero no es del tipo videotutorial si a eso te referís.

• Hay tarea? --> Al final de cada tema hay una lista de conocimientos que deberías haber obtenido y también hay desafíos que te van asignando pero no, no hay alguien que te lo corrija.

• Hay alguien con quien pueda comunicarme? --> TOP tiene una comunidad, más abajo se detalla.

• Está totalmente Inglés, hasta tienen un momento dedicado para explicarte el por qué de esto, en resumen: porque el mundo de la programación es en Inglés y quieren mantenerlo así, incluso si quizás te cueste un poco más. Aseguran que a la larga será mejor para vos si aprendes los conceptos como realmente son.

• Tiene una primera parte bastante densa sobre instalación de programas, entornos etc, a diferencia de otras plataformas te llevan directo al código con la ayuda, por ej, de Codepen. Esto tiene sus pro y sus contra. +Pros: Ya estás empezando a trabajar como se hace en el mundo real. --Contra: quizás te veas desalentado ya que demora un poco y hay que setear y aprender.

• Vas a encontrar un path bien delineado, el nivel inicial se llama "Foundations" y es el inicio de todo. Tiene bastante material linkeado a otras páginas y puedo decir que tiene un curado/selección de lo más notable, de gran calidad, incluso los links que son para expandir algún tema, siempre termine aprendiendo MUCHO allí. +Pros: Gran oportunidad para ampliar tu conocimiento y entender el por qué de todo. --Contra: estás siempre saliendo de TOP y podes encontrarte en la situación de irte por las ramas y no volver a tu camino (te suena familiar?).

• Siguiendo en línea con la idea de visitar otros links, cuando yo inicié mi path te pedían que para hacer el básico de html y css vayas a hacer los desafíos de FreeCodeCamp (hablaremos de FCC en otra entrega), tengo entendido que en este momento ya disponen de una propuesta propia para este trayecto.

• TOP está creado y mantenido por developers de todas partes del mundo, es una comunidad y es sin fines de lucro. Como también hay estudiantes por todos lados, todes se congregan en Discord. Si necesitas ayuda con lo que sea, podés ingresar y formar parte, también para ayudar y proponer.

• Al finalizar "Foundations" tendrás dos opciones para continuar una capacitación en Full stack: 1- Full stack Ruby on rails 2- Full stack Javascript con NodeJs No importa cuál decidas continuar, al final de la sección habrá una última que está dedicada a cómo *conseguir tu primer trabajo.

I'm going to tell you about my journey so far, a little self-taught, a little in an
educational institution ...

First steps:

If you read my previous post, you know that after an advertisement for "Microverse" (yes, they caught me, but I didn't exactly end up in their bootcamp) I started researching what it took to be a front-end web developer.

In this case they referred me to another platform to be able to do what would be the first level and after that you could apply for their bootcamp.

"The Odin project"

This was the platform that I told you where I should start, according to Microverse. I decided to create my account and start there. I'm going to list you some things about it:

Requirements:

• What should I know? -> The basics of computing and English.

• What's the cost? -> $ 0, it's a non-profit organization.

• How long will it take me? -> It is at your own pace, it depends on your knowledge, from 6 to 8 months if you study actively.

• Are there online classes? -> No, the content is asynchronous.

• Are they videos? -> The content is very varied, but it is not of the videotutorial type if that is what you mean.

• There's homework? -> At the end of each topic there is a list of knowledge that you should have obtained and there are also challenges that are assigned to you but no, there is no one to approve or disapprove it.

• • Is there someone I can contact? -> TOP has a community, it is detailed below.*

• It's totally in English , they even have a dedicated moment to explain the why of this, in short: because the world of programming is in English and they want to keep it that way, even if it might cost you a bit plus. They say that in the long run it will be better for you if you learn the concepts as they really are.

• It has a fairly dense first part about program installation , environments etc, where other platforms take you directly to the code with the help, for example, of Codepen. This has its pros and cons. +Pros: Already you are starting to work as it is done in the real world. --Cons: You may be discouraged as it takes a bit and you have to set and learn.

• You are going to find a well outlined path, the initial level is called "Foundations" and it is the beginning of everything. It has a lot of material linked to other pages and I can say that it has a curated / selection of the most remarkable, great quality , even the links that are to expand a topic, I always end up learning A LOT there. +Pros: Great opportunity to expand your knowledge and understand the why of everything. --Cons: you are always leaving TOP and you can find yourself in the situation of entering the rabbit hole and not going back on your way (sounds familiar?).

• Following in line with the idea of ​​visiting other links, when I started my path they asked you to do the basic html and css in FreeCodeCamp (we will talk about FCC in another post), I understand that at this time TOP has their own proposal for this step.

• TOP is created and maintained by developers from all over the world , it is a community and it is non-profit. Since there are also students everywhere , they all meet in Discord. If you need help with whatever, you can enter and be part, also to help others.

• At the end of "Foundations" you will have two options to continue a Full stack training: 1- Full Stack Ruby on Rails 2- Full stack JavaScript with NodeJs

• No matter which one you decide to go on, at the end of the section there will be a last one that is dedicated to how to get your first job .
